Halloween is an open door for creativity and showing the world a different layer of ourselves. As Halloween quickly approaches, here are costume predictions based on recent pop culture. 

No. 1 Chappell Roan

Some people may embrace their inner Midwest Princess this Halloween. Chappell Roan is known for her colorful, eccentric style. She is often inspired by Drag Queens, burlesque, and theater, leaving a wide range of options for people who want to hop on this pink pony and be Roan this coming holiday. 

Roan is believed to hold the record for biggest crowd size ever at music festival Lollapalooza. Exact numbers at Roan’s set weren’t confirmed, but one of the festival spokesperson told CNN, “Roan had the biggest set at the time and 1110,000 attended Lollapalooza in 2024.” 

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Roan’s first album, remains in the Billboard Top 200 and second on iTunes charts. With increasing success, Roan won VMA’s for: Best New Artist, Song of the Summer, Push Performance and Trending Video. 

No. 2 Beetlejuice 

If you are going to be a ghost this Halloween, you might as well be the ghost with the most. Or if you are strange and unusual, you could go as Lydia. The teeth rotting inside Beetlejuice’s mouth and Lydia’s dead eyes are ideal for a Halloween aesthetic. 

The 1998 comedy/horror film, currently has a sequel in theaters now— Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This long awaited sequel binds generations together. 

Variety reports Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had grossed $264 million in the first two weeks of release. Following in the footsteps of the original Beetlejuice, which became one of the highest grossing films in 1988.

No. 3 Bratz Dolls

The world has been all about Barbie since “Barbie” released in 2023, but the tide has shifted to “brat” after UK artist Charli XCX dropped her  album “BRAT” in June. 

With over 75 million streams, it debuted at number three on Billboard charts and lands as the sixth biggest album debut by a female artist.  Since then, Charli XCX has created a whole green brat brand for herself. 

Charli XCX is popular for bringing the y2K club classics scene back into the rave EDM world. “BRAT” started a whole new fashion aesthetic based on the singer’s unique style. 

Charli XCX told The News Movement in a June 10 interview “It can be like, so trashy. Just like a pack of cigs and and a Bic lighter. And like, a strappy white top with no bra. That's like, kind of all you need.”

Mini skirts, tall boots, sheer tights, wrap-around sunglasses and a strappy tank top are a few examples of ways to achieve this look. 

Expect to see brat in some way this halloween. It is all about what “BRAT” means to you.

No. 4 Deadpool & Wolverine 

You may be wondering what’s up with the red suits and long sharp claws this howl-ween.

Deadpool and Wolverine, both based on Marvel Comics, took their relationship off paper and brought it to screens July 26, 2024 . 

Disney reported Deadpool & Wolverine to gross $444 million globally in July - making it the highest grossing rated R film. Now, the film has exceeded over $1 billion in global box office sales. 

Deadpool and Wolverine have their own film franchises, previous to this movie. Before Deadpool & Wolverine was released, the original 2016 Deadpool held the record for highest grossing rated R film ?. 

Tis the season for turning frenemies into friends. 

No. 5 Pearl / X Series 

This halloween, until you're a monster, you aren’t a star. The film franchise “X Series” released its third slasher horror film, MaXXXine on July 5, 2024. The series follows two character timelines, MaXXXine and Pearl, both played by Mia Goth.

Pearl, the second film, was set in 1918 and the other two were set in the 1980s. Since MaXXXine’s release, it has grossed $22 million internationally. The X series as a whole has grossed $7 billion worldwide. 

Goth’s career hit a breakthrough following the X series film franchise, and giving her the title of the “scream queen.” After the release of Pearl, Goth won Best Actress at the Catalonian International Film Festival. 

MaXXXine’s big 80’s hair and classy style, or Pearl’s overalls and braids offer multiples possibilities to dress up as this slasher franchise. 

No. 6 Challengers  

It’s all about winning the points that matter. The tennis love-triangle film, Challengers, navigates an intimate relationship with the sport while characters navigate relationships with each other. 

The film has grossed $94.2 million in box office sales since its release date, April 26, 2024. Zendaya, who plays one of the main characters Tashi, is on the road to winning her first Oscar after her performance in this film. 

Tennis has remained a popular Halloween costume over the years because of its simplicity and cultural impact. From 2019-2023, the US tennis player population went from 5.8% to 7.7%.
