The University of Minnesota provides police services to its Twin Cities and Duluth campuses in an effort to provide safety and security to the campuses and their surrounding communities.

The University of Minnesota Duluth Police Department is a state-licensed police department which employs 12 officers, including the Chief, one lieutenant and two sergeants. It’s jurisdiction includes all academic buildings, parking facilities and property surrounding the facilities, roadways owned by the University of Minnesota Duluth, as well as property owned, leased or operated by the university.

Neighborhoods and business districts surrounding UMD fall under the jurisdiction of the Duluth Police Department, though UMDPD often assists other agencies such as DPD or the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department.
