Red Bull bringing global esports tournament to UMD

The Red Bull Campus Clutch VALORANT tournament is open for enrollment for gamers at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The VALORANT tournament is a global esports tournament featuring teams from over 300 universities across 50 different countries competing for prizes and their honor on a global scale.

Teams of five are eligible to enter, and will first compete against other local teams. The winner of the university qualifier will advance to the regional qualifier, competing against teams at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities as well as schools in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.

The tournament requires that all players be currently enrolled students at eligible two or four-year universities.

After the regional qualifier, the top teams in the nation will battle it out to represent the United States on the global stage. The winner of the global championship will receive a prize of 20,000 euros — just over $23,000.

The UMD qualifier kicks off April 14, and up to five additional teams of five players each can enter the university qualifier. The registration deadline is five minutes before play begins.

Students who want to sign up individually, but can’t field a full five-player team, can enter alone and will be matched with other players who enter alone.

The tournament will be run in a single-elimination fashion — lose one game and you’re done.

UMD and the Twin Cities campus are the only universities enrolled in the state of Minnesota.

Any student interested in competing can learn more and register their team on the Red Bull Campus Clutch VALORANT website.
