Halloween lurks right around the corner, and with the Haunted Ship cancelled until next year’s season, Duluth citizens and students may be wondering what spooky event to conquer instead.

Here are 13 ways people in Duluth can get their Halloween fix.

1. Haunted Depot Halloween Bash

More Details:

This Halloween Bash will have a costume contest with the winner of the Best Costume prize being awarded $500. Along with the costume contest, Lady Ocalat will be there telling people their future and Duluth Paranormal Society will be “on hand to ward off the ghosts.” The food available will all be local with beer from Bent Paddle Brewing Co. and pizza from Toppers Pizza to “feed the monster inside you.”

2. Nopeming Halloween Haunt Tour

When: Oct. 18-20 and Oct. 25-31

Time: Various times starting from 8-10:30 p.m.

Where: Nopeming Sanatorium

Nopeming is an old sanatorium that has tours available throughout the year; however, for Halloween they’re doing something a little different: a Haunt Tour. According to their website, this Haunted Tour is a walking tour done in the dark where ghosts and ghouls haunt the visitors. None of the actors are allowed to touch them.

  • Bring your own flashlight

  • The route is not handicap accessible

  • Buy tickets before going to the event. Tickets are sold online and cannot be bought at the doors.

3. Boofest 2018 feat. Zeke Beats  

More Details:

A costume contest will be one of the features for this event, along with prizes and two floors of music. The artists at Boofest include the following: Zeke Beats, Attom, jamesg, The Crunchy Bunch, C-SILENCE, NorthWood Beats, DJ Sox, Boost, Trap Zilla, Cado San, Doc Hyde, and DJ No Swag.

When: Oct. 26

Time: 8 p.m. through 1:30 a.m.

Where: The Red Herring Lounge

Cost: $10 advance and $15 at door

4. Film: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” – 25th Anniversary

Cost: $10

Zeitgeist will be showing a one night only screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in honor of its 25th Anniversary.

This haunted maze is an annual Halloween event hosted by one of UMD’s clubs Hmong Living in Unity and Balance (HLUB). The theme for the maze changes year-to-year and this year’s theme is none other than Dollhouse. Along with a “terror-filled” maze, popcorn and candy will also be provided.

6. Halloween Boolderfest & Competition

When: Oct. 31

Time: Register with RSOP by Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. and event from 6-9 p.m.

Where: North Shore Wall

Cost: $10 UMD students and $20 for others

More Details:

Participants will have the opportunity to boulder while wearing their costumes, and the costumes will add to the challenge by making it more tricky. The event will also include a costume prize and free treats.

  • No costumes or climbing experience are required

7. Halloween Trivia at Zeitgeist

More Details:

The trivia categories will be solely focused on all things Halloween, specifically on Halloween history, candy, costumes, and Zeitgeist Zinema 2 Horror Film Series. Prizes will be handed out to the top-scoring teams, and costumes are encouraged.

8. Play with Fear: A Haunt Experience from Solve Entertainment

More Details:

This is a haunted experience that blends the traditional haunted house with the escape room experience and psychologically induced fear. Participants of the haunt will have to compete in challenges while being immersed in total darkness.

10. Monster Bash with Choice Unlimited and the Black-eyed Snakes  

More Details:

CHOICE, unlimited will be releasing their first CD at this event. This is a nonprofit organization with this CD being their first Music Class Production and will feature some artists on the CD playing their songs. Afterwards, the Black-eyed Snakes will play.

When: Oct. 26

This corn maze is haunted with things popping out in front of visitors. There’s also the regular corn maze if people want something less spooky and more family friendly.
