UMD Black Student Association (BSA) will host “Murder Mystery-Murder at Kirby Manor: A dinner to die for” on Nov. 2 in the Kirby Ballroom from 7-10 p.m. Doors for the event open at 7 p.m. and remain open until 7:30 p.m.

BSA is tabling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day until Nov. 2 where they will be selling tickets. Tickets are $5 when bought at their tables and $10 after 2 p.m. on Nov. 2. Tickets can also be bought at the doors of the event.

“It’s a big game of Clue where everybody is a suspect and you don’t know who the murderer and victim are going to be,” Ahmed Mohammed, a member of BSA, said. “The murderer is going to be chosen throughout the game, but you won’t even know you’re the murderer yourself. Everybody is a suspect.”

There are three phases in the event. The first one is a social activity set up like a cocktail party where people can socialize, eat snacks, and play games. The second phase is when the murder takes place. One of the characters will go missing and the investigation will commence. The third and final phase is when the mystery is solved, according to Mohammed.

The event includes 16 main characters, and according to President of BSA Marquise Diamond, their goal is to have anywhere from 100 to 150 participants.

“There are 16 main characters, and the people who aren’t main characters are encouraged to come up with aliases so they can partake in the event as well,” Diamond said.

The event is also semiformal so Diamond said to “dress to impress.”

“Murder Mystery-Murder at Kirby Manor: A dinner to die for” is BSA’s semester fundraiser and replaced their previous semester event Date-A-Palooza, according to Diamond.

“We wanted to do something that was never done on campus and to really get people excited about it,” Diamond said. “Also, it’s around Halloween time so maybe people will still be in the Halloween spirit.”

Abdi Ali, a BSA member and the one who organized Date-A-Palooza, is excited for this new event.

“They wanted to get something new on campus and I always think that’s a good thing, shooting for the stars especially,” Ali said. “I think they’re really focusing on detail so that’s a good thing.”
