Kathryn A. Martin Library to Showcase UMD's Oldest & Rarest Books
On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the fourth floor Rotunda, UMD’s oldest and rarest books will be showcased to the public. Dr. Krista Twu, associate professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature, along with Kathryn A. Martin Library Head Archivist Aimee Brown will be leading the event.
UMD’s Kathryn A. Martin Library contains a vast collection of books varying by genre, age, and purpose. One of those collections is the Ramseyer-Northern Bible Society Collection, the oldest and rarest books on the UMD campus.
The Collection now numbers over 1,800 volumes, representing 410 languages.
Twu teaches courses in which students are given the opportunity to study about history and culture along with the publishing field. On the fourth floor of the library, students of Twu’s courses had the chance to collaborate with UMD’s archives to teach their peers about publishing in the middle ages as well as the history of the English language through the use of the collection.
Twu collabs with Brown who manages the archives also assists students and anyone else who is interested in diving into UMD’s collections.
Anyone is welcome to attend to learn more about UMD’s oldest and rarest books and there will be refreshments provided.
