Most Duluth residents were staying indoors due to a snowstorm on Saturday, Feb. 1, but that wasn’t the case for these drag queens, who were getting ready at The Flame Nightclub Duluth for their monthly drag show. The venue was hosting a Valentine's day themed drag show titled “Heart 2 Heart.” The show was hosted by Co-Directors Dixie Diamond and ThatQueerIsa along with other notable drag artists from around the state, including Jazzlyn, Anomaly, Spectrum, Octavia and more.
Even with the cold weather, the queens were heating up the stage with dips, kicks and many splits. Diamond and ThatQueerIsa walked onto the stage to open the show with a duo number. Bass started blasting through the speakers as “Do What U Want” by Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera played. The crowd cheered and hallowered for the “best friend duo.”
Diamond expressed her thoughts about the Heart 2 Heart show later that week.
“You can always expect a great cast … Isa and I really turned it out in the Duluth scene and we are so excited to show you what 2025 has to bring!”
Jazzlyn, one of the queens performing in the show, is the “drag daughter” (a newer drag queen who gets mentored by an established drag queen) of ThatQueerIsa. During Jazzlyn’s performance of “Alone” by Kim petras featuring Nicki Minaj, the crowd was treated to another surprise duo number when Octavia joined her for Minaj’s rap verse. Octavia is the newest addition to the haus — or drag family — of Queer. The crowd was ecstatic when Octavia walked into center stage. Later in the show it was announced that Heart 2 Heart was Octavia’s drag debut show.
“I’ve known Octavia for a long time, and I was so excited to see her embrace her drag persona and absolutely kill her drag debut!” Diamond said. “She’s a part of the haus of queer, ThatQueerIsa’s drag family! An exceptional group of performers.”
When asked about any standout performances of the night, Diamond had a performer she wanted to shed light on in particular.
“I’d like to shout out a performer who made their Flame debut at our last show and then absolutely killed four numbers at our Heart 2 Heart show, Anomaly! They truly stood out and did such an amazing job!”
Spectrum performed a few numbers with songs like “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter as she was being more playful and interactive with the crowd. That same night, Spectrum performed “New Romantics” by Taylor Swift, doing splits and tricks all around the nightclub.
One of Spectrum's sets took a surprising turn when a random man walked on stage, interrupting Spectrum's set mid performance. This person was escorted out of the nightclub without Spectrum missing a beat of her set.
“We did have an altercation with one gentleman following Spectrum on stage,” Diamond explained. “Now this doesn’t happen every drag show, but it does happen more often than it should! It seems like the guy wanted to tell Spectrum something, but was really drunk and waddled up on the stage after her and I had to grab him and remove him from the stage. Security was quick to back us up, as always.”
Diamond also had a message for people attending drag shows.
“If you are attending a drag show, please let the performers perform so we can put on the best show for you! Always be respectful of your performers!”
You can find Dixie Diamond, ThatQueerIsa and many more drag artists every first Saturday of the month at The Flame Nightclub in Duluth.
“You can always expect a great cast, amazing drinks prepared by our great bartenders, and more stunts than you can count.”
