How to Survive Finals
Finals week can be a stressful time, especially for college students. So, how can we deal with that stress? Even as a college student you might already have so many expenses so, what are some free options to release your stress? Well, here are some cheap or even free tips for you!
“For me, exercise especially is a really good way to shake off some stress and get in a good headspace to tackle projects or studying during finals week,” biology tutor Jake Schmidt said.
There is an on-campus gym and weightlifting room, which are great opportunities to release some stress about the upcoming finals. The open gym is great for playing basketball, passing around a volleyball and spending time with friends.
There are other ways to relax that are non-physical and more mental. Things like that might include listening to music, reading or even writing in a journal.
Schmidt also suggests tackling the stressor as soon as possible. That way you can move on and be done with it, instead of procrastinating and letting the stress build up. Planning ahead is crucial in this case, so consider a planner.
Don't forget —Stress Less Week is coming back to campus this year!
Stress Less Week happens through December 6-10. There are so many activities for you to destress throughout this four day period including: coloring tables, cute animal videos, Yoga in the second floor rotunda, PAWS in the library, stress ball making, button making, and so much more!
“We know students are incredibly stressed throughout the semester but especially before finals, and probably more so now when things are just so uncertain with the pandemic,” said Chelsey Miller, one of the coordinators of Stress Less Week.
“When feeling overwhelmed just take things a little at a time, and remember to just step away from what you're feeling overwhelmed by,” Miller said. There are so many options and opportunities to help you destress. Miller talks about how being outside is something that helps clear her mind and it might be something that helps you too!
Stress can be caused by a variety of things, and maybe attempting one or multiple of these suggestions will ease your stress during finals week.
“I think that managing and dealing with your stress helps maintain good health, and keep a good mindset to be able to do well in school, and enjoy your leisure time without worrying about anything else,” Schmidt says.
