The Mediahub Has Moved: Tips and Tricks For all Your Technical Needs
A lot has changed at UMD this semester, and one of the major changes involves the school’s Mediahub. Formerly residing in the Kathryn A. Martin Library, the ITSS Mediahub is now connected to the larger ITSS Techcenter in Kirby Plaza. With the change in location, the Mediahub also comes with new hours. Formerly open during the weekend, the ITSS Mediahub is now only open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Despite the move, they still offer the same great services.
In an effort to bring together the different services that are run by ITSS, the Mediahub was chosen to become a new part of the ITSS Techcenter, as being closer to the IT specialists allows for greater access to help and information. The ITSS Mediahub is a resource for everyone on campus who needs access to equipment and support for media and technology-based assignments and projects. If there is ever an assignment that requires media production equipment, the place to rent out that equipment will be at the Mediahub.
There are two main parts to the Mediahub, the Mediahub Checkout (Kirby Plaza 165) and the Mediahub CoLab (Kirby Plaza 173). The Mediahub Checkout is where you can pick up and reserve equipment such as cameras and microphones.
Recently, the Mediahub has also launched a new website where you can check out equipment online and access tutorial videos for the items available.
The Mediahub CoLab is another space offered for studying, learning and creating. When using the CoLab, anyone on campus has access to many great tech-related services and devices including the use of 3D printers, iMac stations, button makers, a lamination station, an interactive whiteboard and more. Along with all of this great technology, the CoLab also offers friendly help from multiple IT experts.
There are many other resources that the ITSS Mediahub offers like the Techcenter portrait studio where students can receive professional headshot photos for Linkedin. Students, faculty and staff can make reservations for many of the resources available at the CoLab as well. Coming soon, the Mediahub CoLab will be offering technology events and workshops.
Be sure to check out the ITSS Mediapages pages on the UMD website, and explore the ITSS Techcenter yourself to learn about everything that the Mediahub and CoLab have to offer.
