Universal Access Survey Results Revealed
The Bark has obtained the results of a Nov. 7 survey sent out to students across the University of Minnesota system that was used to help implement Universal Access.
The survey was sent out to roughly 1100-1200 students at each University of Minnesota campus, with about 160-170 students from each responding. It asked students questions such as: how and when they receive their textbooks, whether they prefer digital or print books and if they have concerns regarding the costs of textbooks. While the term “Universal Access” is not mentioned, administrators used the results to indicate that students across the system would support a UA program.
The results showed that 39% of UMD respondents prefer physical textbooks over digital versions, with 70% indicating that they would prefer receiving their textbooks digitally if it was cheaper than print. It also expressed that 51% of UMD respondents purchase their textbooks during the first week of class, with only 49% indicating that they either “often” or “always” purchase their books from the UMD Bookstore.
