UMD women’s CC looks to carry over NSIC conference success into this weekends NCAA central regional

All smiles following the Bulldogs second place finish at the NSIC championship races

The University of Minnesota Duluth women’s cross country team is coming of its most significant finish of the season after coming in second place at Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships on October 21.

UMD edged out NSIC rival Augustana by a single point to secure its runner-up finish. Auggie came in at No. 19 in the nation to the championship meet.

Senior captain Meg Borowski describes the success of last weekend as huge for the team and hopes that the second place finish will help propel the Bulldogs into a top three spot in the region.

“I think conference was a big confidence boost for us because everybody has been fighting through sickness and injury but we showed up when it mattered most,” Borowski said.

Currently ranked No. 17 in the nation, the Bulldogs are looking for another strong outing on Saturday when they race in Kearney, Nebraska for the National Collegiate Athletic Association central regional.

“Coming into regions I think everyone's really excited,” Borowski said. “We’ve been to the national championship meet the past nine years in a row so we just want to continue that legacy and keep going back.”

Sitting at No. 5 in the region right now, the Bulldogs will need to get into the top three if they want to have any chance at continuing their legacy of getting to nationals for tenth consecutive season.

The Bulldogs run for their national championship race hopes at 11 a.m.
