Borowski notches All-American honors while UMD women's cross country place 15th at NCAA DII Championships

In her final collegiate race of her career, senior captain of the women’s cross-country team Meg Borowski secured All-American accolades with her 23rd overall finish at last Saturday’s NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Indiana. Coming into the race ranked No. 17 in the nation, the Bulldogs placed 15th out of 32 teams.

Borowski ran the 6000-meter race in 21:30.1, a lifetime personal record for the Chanhassen native.

“I try to make myself laugh and smile before the race and just know that I’ve done everything I could,” Borowski said. “I stepped up to the line and the gun went off and when it went off I just knew it was going to be a good race. I just felt strong.”

Claiming the All-American status had been a goal for Borowski before setting out upon her senior campaign. When she figured out she had accomplished the feat, it was a special moment for her.

“It was surreal, I don’t think I believed it until I saw it on paper that I had actually done it and finished top 40. I gave it my all and the night before I was thinking whatever happens is going to happen,” Borowski said.

Looking back on the season, Borowski said the main thing she was going to remember was the group of girls she got race alongside of and how close they became as a team.

“These friends will be people that I have for a lifetime and I’m just happy I got to share this last season with them,” Borowski said.
