Men's Basketball vs Augustana in the First Round of NSIC Tournament

UMD Men’s basketball faced the Augustana Vikings for a postseason game in the Romano Gymnasium on Wednesday. The final score was 74-63 with Augustana taking the game. The Bulldogs ended the season as the sixth seed of the NSIC tournament, while Augustana ended as the 11th seed. 

Augustana started the game out strong, leading 13-6 in the first five minutes, then 29-16 after 10 minutes. The Bulldogs couldn’t catch up as they ended the first half 42-26 with Augustana in the lead.

The Vikings got the advantage in the beginning of the second half, scoring two more points, but UMD wasn’t giving up and had a 7-0 run with about 16 minutes of the second half left to go. With nine minutes and 43 seconds left of the game, Joshua Brown scored a slam dunk making the score 47-51 with the Bulldogs still down. UMD couldn’t keep up, giving Augustana a 74-63 win.      

UMD put up a good fight with 32 rebounds to Augustana’s 34. UMD had 12 turnovers while the Vikings had 13, and UMD had six steals while Vikings had nine. 

The lead scorer was Brown with 18 points, followed by Charlie Katona with 14 points. Behind them were Kole Hanson with 11 points and Matthew Thompson with 5 points. The players and coaches worked hard to try and catch up, but the game ultimately ended in a loss for the Bulldogs.
