Bulldogs Show Out for Homecoming Weekend
As Homecoming comes to a close for everyone here at UMD, Bulldog fans can sleep happily knowing their teams put on stellar performances, posting wins in every varsity sport. From hockey to soccer, let's take a look back on the weekend.
The UMD Women's Soccer team split their games this weekend, losing to Bemidji State University on Saturday but ultimately coming back to beat Minnesota Crookston on Sunday. The Bulldogs fell to BSU 2-1, with the only goal coming from senior defender Eliana Marciano at 69:02 in the game. They bounced back in their next game, defeating Minnesota Crookston in a dominant 4-0 fashion, including an accidental own-goal from Crookston at 13:17 in the game.
Bulldog football got off to an early start in their matchup against Minnesota State Moorhead with a 7-yard, rushing touchdown in the first quarter from grad student and player of the game, Zach Ojile. A strong showing from the Bulldog defense was put on display picking up 50 tackles, including 4 sacks, for a total loss of 39 yards. In the end, this game was an absolute offensive battle between the two teams, ending in a final score of 36-28 and a Bulldog victory.
Bulldog Men’s Hockey completed the series sweep for their home opener against Arizona State University over the weekend. Game 1 saw the matchup go into an exhilarating three-on-three overtime, with recent transfer Derek Daschke sinking in the game-winning goal for the 3-2 win. The Bulldogs came in the next day with a dominant performance in Game 2, giving freshman Ben Steeves his time to shine on the ice, putting up his first two goals of the season in a 4-1 Bulldog win.
