UMD Men’s Hockey: Everything You Need to Know for the 2022-23 Season
As UMD Men’s Hockey gears up for the start of their season, here is what you need to know to be the best bulldog hockey fan you can be.
With the graduation and promotion of the previous captain Noah Cates to the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, the UMD Men’s Hockey Club has recently named senior forward Tanner Laderoute, as the club captain for the 2022-2023 season. Accompanying him are senior forwards Quinn Olson and Luke Loheit who have been named as the club’s assistant captains for the season.
The team welcomes in 10 freshman players onto the roster this year underneath the leadership of the veteran captains. Regardless, the most recent USCHO poll has ranked the UMD hockey club as #5 overall in the nation — a small, yet noticeable upgrade from the previous year when they were ranked as #6 nationwide.
The regular season schedule for the Men’s Hockey Club offers a couple of unique matchups throughout the year, where they will face three of the four teams placed above them in the most recent national rankings. This will include a home series and an away series against last year's NCAA national champions, the University of Denver Pioneers. A team that UMD defeated in the divisional championship but eliminated them in return during the national tournament.
The UMD Bulldogs ended last year’s regular season with a record of 22-16-4 and hope to improve that as the team begins their season against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022.
Student section tickets can be purchased from the UMD Ticket Office on campus from 9am-4pm daily, or directly from the AMSOIL Ticket Office on game day. Fan buses leave from the UMD Bus Hub 75 minutes prior to the start of the game, providing transportation for no additional charge.
